In The Economist: "Masquerading as local news outlets has been the work of a disinformation outfit that researchers have named “Doppelganger,” which is notorious for using Telegram to push fake content which purports to be from mainstream media. The same operation, which is the focus of an EU investigation into Meta, has used more than 2,000 inauthentic social media accounts, according to the cybersecurity firm Recorded Future Inc. Those personas have sought to undermine faith in Ukraine’s military effort by posing as news organizations or targeting German audiences to weaken confidence in their lawmakers."

“Ideas are worth nothing, but execution is worth something.” So says Christopher Ahlberg, CEO and cofounder of cybersecurity company Recorded Future. Founded in 2009, Recorded Future is now used by 30 governments globally and more than half of Fortune 100 companies. “Our mission matters a lot to the 1,000 people who work here. They stick around because we give them interesting problems to solve, they get to work with other great people, and because we work to secure the world with intelligence.” In 2019, Insight bought the company for $780M. Since the deal, the business has grown revenues fivefold. “It’s been a pleasure to have a front-row seat to their success,” says Thomas Krane, managing director at Insight. “For three years, [Christopher] gave us his vision for the market and how Recorded Future would fare, and he always lived up to his promises.” What’s next for Recorded Future? “More revenue. More people. More AI,” says Ahlberg. Learn more about Recorded Future’s mission for global safety and security: https://lnkd.in/eZFcZ9_B #venturecapital #founder #startup #ScaleUp

As featured in The New York Times, former sheriff's deputy John Mark Dougan has become a key player in Russia's disinformation operations, with an ever-growing network of more than 160 fake websites that mimic news outlets in the United States, Britain, and France. https://lnkd.in/dK_yU3z8 After several months of investigation, Insikt Group was the first to identify and report 57 domains created by Dougan. Two days later, 103 new sites appeared, all on a server in California. https://lnkd.in/e99Dj_xS Organizations can use Recorded Future’s Digital Risk Solution to track and combat typosquatting domains and infringing content on similar domains and Recorded Future AI to summarize and track emerging narratives.
