Passwords are being replaced with passkeys. Actually, we’re already halfway there. Most big tech platforms have adopted this way of keeping users secure. Next up is for the rest of us to follow. From a user perspective, passkeys are great news. It's more secure and it's much easier to use. Users will expect to be able to login to your service or site with passkeys very soon. 74% believe we should improve user security above physical crypto-security. At this year's V2 Security, we had discussions on where to focus our digital security efforts. Should we invest in strengthening physical cryptoboxes, or should we concentrate on making the user experience safer? Among the 164 surveyed at V2: - 74% think we should invest in strengthening human behavior and the user experience. - 26% consider physical security more important. Niels Flensted-Jensen pointed out during his talk at V2 that EU regulations often don't prioritize user-targeted attacks like phishing. Regulations are more focused on improving hardware security, without adequately addressing the risks faced by everyday users of digital identity solutions like eIDs. Going forward, the EU aims to introduce digital wallets and passkeys to strengthen user security. This will actually do both - strengthen software security and make things easier for the users. How can BankID ensure safe access to disability parking cards? Parking cards for people with disabilities in Norway have commonly been stolen and sold on the black market. WAYS were given the opportunity to create a digital solution, only accessible by the right individuals. Together with Mobilitypass and Criipto, Ways enabled digital access to cards through identity verification with Norwegian BankID. Why is it so easy to buy alcohol and nicotine products online without age verification? These types of products are commonly consumed by underage consumers in Denmark. In 2022: - 22% of girls and 27% of boys aged 15 consumed alcohol on a weekly basis - 18.2% of 15 to 17-year-olds regularly use nicotine products like vapes or nicotine pouches There's no secure age verification process for these products online. According to the law, the seller must require the customer to confirm they are above the legal age, but not to verify it. In reality, users are presented with a yes/no button as a simple confirmation that they are the correct age for purchasing - in effect, no valid confirmation at all. This enables Danish youths to easily buy alcohol and nicotine products without age checks. Implementing stricter age verification regulations and safer methods is essential for their protection. As a digital identity provider, we believe MitID is an efficient tool for age verification. It securely collects the ages of users, is already used by 4.96 million people, and has been suggested by several organizations and politicians as a potential solution.
